göreme

it was a beautiful ride until 2okm before göreme. after a turnoff heavy head and side winds kicked in and sometimes i head to get off the bike. fighting against the wind not wanting to camp that night, a passing busdriver took pity on me and got me through the worst til ürgüp. it was already dark when i finally rolled down the road to göreme. worldtourguide page 50…  i’m not staying in the fairy chimney inn but rather got myself a bed in a family run budget cave hotel.

after a shower and getting my stuff off the bicycle i went to dinner with a french girl and guy from the hotel. we had wonderful lintel soup and pide.

i wrote an email to a fellow cyclist who was traveling turkey as well and got word from him that he is also staying in göreme in a pensyon just 1o0m away. after breakfast the next morning i walked over to say hello.

mathias from sweden is cycling to south africa. probably arriving in time for the worldcup. he was about to leave that day and updated his blog (in swedish) while i took a ride through the unusual landscape of cappadocia. we later reconnected and i benefited from his knowledge of getting around by plane. which i will put to good use sooner or later when i can’t get any further overland cause entering tibet or myanmar turns out to be impossible. good luck, mathias! and stay away from the hungry lions. i bet they don’t care a lot about some spiced up liquid out of a waterpistol 😉 wish you a wonderful experience traveling africa!

i will leave tomorrow for kayseri from where i’ll take the train to erzurum. i will stay there for one or two days to pick up my visa and have a good look at a map of iran…
